Photonics West is the world's largest photonics technologies event. With three conferences (BIOS, LASE, OPTO) and a wide range of topics (biomedical optics, biophotonics, industrial lasers, optoelectronics, microfabrication, MOEMS-MEMS, displays, and more), this is the best place to present, network and learn.

In 2022, the Friends of Computer Science at TU Kaiserslautern (FIT e.V.) will again organize a Computer Science Practice Day - but digitally. At this event, experts from various companies will provide information about the challenges of their work. It opens up possibilities for students to continue their studies and shows what can be done during their studies to set the course for the future. We are also represented by a team from the division »High Performance Computing« and report on the work at our institute.

The seminar KL-Regelungstechnik (Kaiserslautern – Control Theory and Control Engineering) is organized by our department System Analysis, Prognosis and Control as well as several research groups of the TU Kaiserslautern. Dr. Svyatoslav Pavlichkov (TU Kaiserslautern, Mechatronics in Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (MEC)) will speak on the topic »Stability, Decentralized Control and Decentralized Adaptive Control of Infinite Networks«.

[The event is rescheduled due to the current situation for June 21 - 23, 2022.] E-world energy & water is the industry meeting place for the European energy industry. The topics of E-world 2022 are innovative solutions for the energy supply of the future – from generation, transport and storage to trading, efficiency and green technologies. The teams from the departments »System Analysis, Prognosis and Control«, »High Performance Computing«, »Optimization« and »Financial Mathematics« will present their research in the energy industry.

This year, TU Kaiserslautern is organizing a digital event for all math-enthusiastic students to get to know the university and the study program. Our institute director, Prof. Dr. Anita Schöbel, will be digitally on site and will present our work in her lecture »Energy, Health, Transport: Mathematics for a Good Future« starting at 11:05 pm. From 11:45 p.m., one of our consultants, Prof. Dr. Ralf Korn, will also contribute to the program with a lecture on the current topic »Corona rapid test positive ... and now?« will contribute to the program.

In the current vehicle engineering process for global markets, good data of the relevant environmental conditions and models for usage variability are crucial for the derivation of correct design requirements and targets. This concerns several fields in the development cycle, especially classical durability for drivetrains and the assessment of the vehicle’s energy efficiency. The software-suite VMC® provides all you need to analyse vehicle usage in different markets and regions, to plan measurement campaigns, to evaluate data and to simulate energy demands and consumption, vehicle drivetrain loads and performance based on suitable vehicle and driver models embedded in an efficient environmental model.

Moreover, with available high-resolution environmental data specifically chosen scenarios and the corresponding ADAS/AD performance can be investigated very efficiently.

Components that are exposed to mechanical loads need to be designed for real customer usage. Variability of loads and of production quality represent major challenges. Jurojin provides best availably statistical methods for durability engineers to tackle those challenges. The soft-ware provides accurate evaluations for engineers – using sophisticated statistics without requiring the user to have advanced statistics skills. At our technology day we demonstrate typical application examples and their effi cient solution in Jurojin.

[The workshop has been rescheduled for 3/24/2022]. The Predictive Analytics for Industry 4.0 group invites you to the first meetup event of the year. The topic of the online event is »Implement Predictive Maintenance Correctly: Best Practices, Tools and Practical Examples«. Dr. Benjamin Adrian, will give an insight into the different projects of Fraunhofer ITWM on predictive maintenance systems.

The International Network Optimization Conference (INOC) provides a forum for researchers in the broad field of network optimization to present and publish their latest results and ongoing research. INOC is the conference of the European Network Optimization Group (ENOG), a working group of EURO. The conference has been held biyearly since 2003. Our institute director Prof. Dr. Anita Schöbel will speak as an invited speaker on the topic of »Robust multi-objective optimization: Concepts, results and applications«.

The 15th annual Energy High Performance Computing Conference (previously the Oil and Gas High Performance Computing Conference), hosted annually at Rice University by the Ken Kennedy Institute, is the premier meeting place for the energy industry to engage in conversations about challenges and opportunities in high performance computing, computational science and engineering, machine learning, and data science. Attended by more than 500 leaders and experts from the energy industry, academia, national labs, and IT industry, this is a opportunity for key stakeholders to engage and network to help advance HPC in the energy industry. A team from our division »High Performance Computing« will be on site in Houston to give presentations.

FILTECH is one of the largest filtration exhibitions in the world. The exhibition is optimal for networking around products and services for filtration and separation. With our departments »Flow and Material Simulation«, »Transport Processes« and »Image Processing« we are present and report about our research and products on filter media and filtration.

[Due to current developments, the workshop has been postponed to 31.5 - 1.6.2022.]The workshop offers scientists and industry representatives the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience in the field of Terahertz technology. The potential of the technology for analysis, testing and measurement tasks has been impressively demonstrated for various applications in recent years. However, a number of challenges still have to be solved for use in industry.

[Due to current developments, the symposium has been rescheduled to 9/13 - 9/15/2022]. The Commercial Vehicle Technology Symposium is a two-day conference taking place at the campus of the University of Kaiserslautern. The conference includes approximately 50 oral presentations and poster presentations focusing international trends and technological developments of the commercial vehicle industry. It will be accompanied by a technical exhibition and a special vehicle exhibition. We will be on site with a team from the division »Mathematics for Vehicle Engineering« and contribute to the extensive programme.

At this year's conference, many important questions about the future of business research will be answered. Our head of the Institute Prof. Dr. Anita Schöbel will give an impulse on »Interdisciplinary Research Data« as an invited speaker and participate in a panel discussion on this topic.

At the symposium around the topic of electrochemical technologies, our expert of the department »Flow and Material Simulation«, Falco Schneider, will introduce our work and research in the focus of electrochemistry and batteries. He will present his poster titled »An Efficient Numerical Solver for SEI Degradation in Li-Ion Batteries« on March 15th starting at 4:30 pm.

The event is in a series with the satellite event »ÖGD meets Public Health: Challenges for the time after Corona« of the previous year. It provides a framework for exchanges between public health practitioners, academics and young professionals to consider how the funds from the »Pact for Public Health« can be put to good use, and not just for infection control. Our colleagues Phuc Truong and Dr. Stefanie Grimm from the department of »Financial Mathematics« will participate digitally with a short presentation.

With MESHFREE a variaty of situations can be simulated, since it adapts efficiently to moving geometry elements such as stirrers of mixing devices or the movement of free surfaces. In the course, we give an overview of the tool and present how the software best supports your demands.

Under the umbrella of the project Sensor Edge Cloud for federated learning (SEC-Learn), the competences of eleven Fraunhofer institutes converge to address highly relevant challenges with the goal to identify novel approaches and achieve breakthrough innovations for next-generation computing. Our division High Performance Computing will be represented by our experts Dr. Jens Krüger, Nico Weber and Dominik Loroch with presentations.
