The Deep Learning Seminar is organized by employees from the field »Data Analysis and Machine Learning« in the department »High Performance Computing«. It is intended to give interested persons an insight into this large field of research and a deeper understanding. Everyone who wants to learn more about Deep Learning, Machine Learning or AI in general is invited. The event takes place regularly on Thursdays. This week our speaker Paula Harder (Fraunhofer ITWM) present on »Adversarial Examples – An Introduction«.

Also in 2021, the Association for the Promotion of Computer Science at the TU Kaiserslautern (FIT e.V.) will be organizing a practical computer science day - but digitally. At this day, experts from various companies will inform about the challenges of their work. The exhibitors will present themselves digitally in a common room and will also offer the opportunity to withdraw to a private area for individual discussions and video chats. This opens up opportunities for students to find out how they can continue their studies after graduation and shows what can be done during their studies to set the course for the future. We are also represented by teams from the »Optimization« and "High Performance Computing« departments and report on the work at our institute.

On our technology day we demonstrate typical application examples and their efficient solution in Jurojin. Components that are exposed to mechanical loads need to be designed for real customer usage. Variability of loads and of production quality represent major challenges. Jurojin provides best availably statistical methods for durability engineers to tackle those challenges. The software provides accurate evaluations for engineers – using sophisticated statistics without requiring the user to have advanced statistics skills.

On our technology days we present selected tasks and their solution with our software. In this event, the focus is on digital environmental data for vehicle engineering. The software-suite VMC® provides all you need to analyse vehicle usage in different markets and regions, plan measurement campaigns, evaluate data and simulate vehicle loads and performance based on suitable vehicle and driver models embedded in an efficient environmental model.

Held annually at Rice University in Houston, Texas, the Rice Oil and Gas High Performance Computing (OG-HPC) Conference is one of the premier venues for the industry to share challenges and opportunities in high-performance computing, computational science and engineering, machine learning and data science. This year, the conference will be held digitally. Our experts from the »High Performance Computing« department Norman Ettrich, Janis Keuper, Peter Labus, Ricard Durall Lopez, Philipp Reusch and Valentin Tschannen (alphabetical order) will participate in the conference. Our institute is also one of the supporting companies.

The digtal version offers live plenary talks, on-demand technical presentations and discussions, online networking and special events, and a digital marketplace showcasing product demonstrations and business connections. We present several lectures.

Ensuring performance, comfort and safety in harsh weather conditions and extreme driving situations is crucial for customer satisfaction and occupant safety. The Simpulse day will provide an overview of scientific approaches, latest methods and various software applications as well as best practices and industry-related use cases. Two of our experts, Jörg Kuhnert and Pratik Suchde from the department »Transport Processes« will give a presentation on the topics »MESHFREE Simulations of Water Crossing and Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI)« and »Thin Film Flow Models for Automotive Water Management«.

In Kaiserslautern, there is a unique collection of mathematics and computer science competencies, which are being applied in numerous research projects in areas like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Deep Learning. The »ML in KL Lightning Talks« is an initiative of the DFKI and the ITWM that offers a new networking opportunity for researchers of all institutions in KL. The topic focus on March 11, 2021 is »Experiences and New Approaches in the Training of Neural Networks«.

With MESHFREE a variaty of situations can be simulated, since it adapts efficiently to moving geometry elements such as stirrers of mixing devices or the movement of free surfaces. In the course, we give an overview of the tool and present how the software best supports your demands.

This year, the motto of Fraunhofer's largest internal networking event is »Resilience - Emerging Stronger From the Crisis«. During this digital, two-day event, around 30 current projects from Fraunhofer's preliminary research will be presented.
