General Purpose Autonomous Robot for Intralogistics – A Control Perspective
The project 5x5G-Strategie funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany supports the 5G Modellregion Kaiserslautern in which several groups at the TU Kaiserslautern and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) explore applications and research opportunities based on the upcoming mobile network standard 5G. One of many applications examined is a general purpose autonomous robot (GPAR) that will be used for intralogistics on the university's campus using 5G as the communication channel. 5G will provide the possibility for low latency device-to-device (D2D) communication in robot fleets and surroundings able to communicate. It will enable high-bandwidth communication for cloud computing which allows information fusion and computation of complex algorithms in real time. This presentation outlines current status and future perspectives, focusing on control for GPAR, and discusses non-linear MPC using CasADi as well as reciprocal velocity obstacles for collision avoidance and obstacle motion prediction.
