In our Math Talent School, female students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in workshops and with individual mentoring, and to work in teams on real applied math challenges.

The »Operations Research Society of Germany 2022« invites scientists on an international level to enrich the conference with their contributions on the main topics of energy, information and mobility. Our department »Technical Processes« from the division »Optimization« will also participate with numerous presentation.

Are you interested in the topics of anomaly and structural break detection or are you already working in the field and looking for an opportunity to exchange and discuss? Our department »Financial Mathematics« organizes in cooperation with the »German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence« (DFKI) a workshop on »Anomaly and Change Point Detection«. Here you have the opportunity to present questions and first research results from the fields of anomaly and change point detection in talks or posters.

The aim of the symposium is to promote the exchange between researchers and engineers on novel modeling and simulation techniques. Darina Fokina and Prof. Dr. Oleg Illiev from the department »Flow and Materials Simulation« will present a poster on »On Pore Scale Simulation of Reactive Flows in Catalytic Filters«.

This summer school provides both an overview and an in-depth analysis of the current state of research in Quantum Machine Learning and Quantum AI for young researchers and PhD students. Our colleague Alexander Geng from the »Image Processing« department will participate here with a poster on »A Robust Quantum Image Edge Detector Based on Machine Learning for the NISQ Era«.

The Commercial Vehicle Technology Symposium is a two-day conference held on the campus of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern (TUK). The conference includes approximately 50 technical papers and poster presentations focusing on international trends and technological developments in the commercial vehicle industry. The symposium will be accompanied by a trade exhibition with companies and a special vehicle exhibition.

The Commercial Vehicle Technology Symposium is a two-day conference taking place at the campus of the University of Kaiserslautern. The conference includes approximately 50 oral presentations and poster presentations focusing international trends and technological developments of the commercial vehicle industry. It will be accompanied by a technical exhibition and a special vehicle exhibition. We will be on site with a team from the division »Mathematics for Vehicle Engineering« and contribute to the extensive programme.

ECDA 2022 is concerned with interdisciplinary research and interaction between theory and practice. A broad spectrum of topics will be covered by the scientific programme with lectures and contributions. Our colleagues Axel Preis and Robert Buch from the department »Financial Mathematics« will give a lecture on »Change Point Detection in Text Data« and »Interpolation of Missing Swaption Volatility Data Using Variational Autoencoders«.

The 61. Dornbirn GFC 2022 is the innovation platform for the global fibre, textile, nonwovens, finishing and mechanical engineering industries and is intended to function as a generator of ideas and networks. It offers visitors 95 expert lectures from the fibre industry, 30 start-up young entrepreneurs, 25 exhibitors and a total of three awards ceremonies for innovative ideas from science and industry. Our colleague Dr. Walter Arne from the department »Transport Processes« will give a lecture on »Modeling and Simulation of Crystallization in the Spinning Process«. The lecture will include topics from the focus on »Flexible Structures«.

At the hybrid driving simulation conference, driving simulation specialists from industry and science as well as commercial simulation providers will meet for the 21st time. We will also be there and René Reinhard from the division »Mathematics for Vehicle Engineering« will give a presentation on the seating position in autonomous vehicles.

The XR-Week is a tech event for Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR), or eXtended Reality (XR) for short. We will be there with colleagues from Fraunhofer IPK and present our joint work in the field of »XR 4 IPS« at their booth.

KI2022 is a pan-European Artificial Intelligence (AI) conference and traditionally brings together academic and industrial researchers from all areas of AI and provides an opportunity for the exchange of news and research results on theory and applications. Our colleagues from the department »Image Processing« Dr. Katja Schladitz and Dr. Petra Gospodnetic organize and design a workshop in cooperation with the Technical University of Kaiserslautern (TUK).

A team of our experts from the department »Financial Mathematics«, together with researchers from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, will offer a whole block of lectures on various topics of the insurance industry at this online conference on 20.9.2022.

The conference is dedicated to the exchange of knowledge between international experts in electrochemical energy storage and deals with tools and challenges of lithium-ion battery technology. Our colleague Dr. Jochen Zausch from the department "Flow and Material Simulation" will give a presentation on this topic.

Apply & Innovate 2022 picks up topics and trends in the automotive industry and especially in virtual vehicle development and creates a platform for the exchange of new impulses. Our colleague Francesco Calabrese from the department »Mathematics for Vehicle Engineering« will be present with a presentation and a booth.

With presentations from the fields of industry, operational practice and research, innovative developments in the nonwovens sector will be presented again this year. In addition to technical information, participants will have the opportunity to make new contacts and deepen existing ones. Our colleagues Dr Dietmar Hietel and Dr Walter Arne from the department »Transport Processes« will give a presentation on »Simulation chain for nonwovens from production to properties - key to increasing efficiency and performance«. We will also be represented with a stand on site.

InnoTrans is the leading international trade fair for transport technology, which takes place every two years in Berlin. Our colleagues Dr. Ronald Rösch from the department »Image Processing« and Dr. Joachim Jonuscheit from the department »Material Characterization and Testing« will be present with a booth (hall 23, booth 240) together with the »Fraunhofer Transportation Alliance«.

At the »Decarbxpo«, representatives from science and industry can exchange ideas on the topics of decarbonization, energy storage and climate neutrality in companies, establish contacts and build networks. Our colleagues Franz-Josef Pfreundt, Matthias Klein-Schlößl and Christian Mohrbacher from the division »High Performance Computing« will be on site with a booth and present the projects »Amperix«, »myPowerGrid Software Ecosystem« and »PVCAST«.

The European Network on Nonsmooth Dynamics (ENNSD) organises an annual symposium with the aim of bringing together researchers working in the field of nonsmooth dynamics and creating a platform that enables the community to advance research on the relevant topics. Our colleague Armin Bosten from the department »Mathematics for Vehicle Engineering« will give a talk with Oliver Brüls (University of Liège, Belgium).

OpenDesk offers any company the opportunity to contribute with innovation needs that can be solved through modeling, simulation and optimization technologies in a data-rich environment (MSO-DE). It also creates exchange in the field of application-oriented mathematical research and use in industry, science and society. Our colleague Dr. Alexander Scherrer from the division »Optimization« will represent our institute as a member of the OpenDesk committee at the upcoming matchmaking event..

With MESHFREE a variaty of situations can be simulated, since it adapts efficiently to moving geometry elements such as stirrers of mixing devices or the movement of free surfaces. In the course, we give an overview of the tool and present how the software best supports your demands.

In the »LinTim« project, the planning process in public transport is to be considered in an integrated manner in order to improve the public transport service in terms of its customer-friendliness and its costs. The robustness against disturbances shall also be included. Our institute director and AI pilot for mobility Rhineland-Palatinate Prof. Dr. Anita Schöbel and our colleague Dr. Alexander Schiewe from the field of »Mathematics for Vehicle Development« will be present.

Illia Horenko will provide an overview of some relevant mathematical challenges, concepts, and methods in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), motivating them by – and considering them from – the biomedical neuroscience perspective that emerges when observing/measuring real living neuronal systems. The recurrent mathematical theme will be in establishing a joint optimization-driven paradigm – as well as in evaluating and comparing complexity and numerical feasibility of different mathematical approaches.

MSE 2022 is the international congress for materials science and engineering in Germany. The scientific programme features well-known experts and up-and-coming young researchers. Our colleagues Shahbaz Ahmed and Falco Schneider from the department »Flow and Material Simulation« will be present with lectures.

At the conference, participants will be presented with papers from a wide range of energy-related research fields. The aim of the event is to provide researchers and practitioners with an overview of the current sources of uncertainty and risk in the energy and financial markets. Our colleague Elias Röger from the department »Financial Mathematics« will give a presentation entitled »Optimal Trading With a Battery: An Optimization Model for Offering Flexibility on the Day-Ahead, Intraday and Reserve Market«

Quantum computing and the so-called quantum supremacy to accelerate certain computations is undoubtedly attracting a lot of interest and attention in all industries at the moment. Our colleagues Dr. Pascal Halffmann, Mark-Oliver Wolf and Dr. rer. nat. Ivica Turkalj from the department »Financial Mathematics« will give talks and discuss different topics of quantum computing.

In 2022, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft will host the third international science and technology conference in its "FUTURAS IN RES" series on the topic of »The Quantum Breakthrough«. Our institute director Prof Dr Anita Schöbel will moderate the conference on the topic »Road to Industrialization« together with the institute director of Fraunhofer IOF Prof Dr Andreas Tünnermann. In addition, our colleague Dr Matthias Kabel will give a impulse speech as part of the »Computing« workshop.

The Fraunhofer lead project »Cognitive Agriculture (COGNAC)« has been worked on by eight Fraunhofer institutes over the past four years. They have assessed the state of the art and developed supporting building blocks in the areas of sensor technology, automation, digital data space and cognitive solutions. Experts from the divisions »Optimization« and »Mathematics for Vehicle Engineering« will present the results developed within the framework of COGNAC, especially in the areas of »Robust Harvest Campaign Planning«, as well as »Analysis of Agronomic Data« and »Plant Growth Modelling and Predictive Field Processing for Decision Support«.

The Research Day stands for dialogue and networking between scientists. It offers students, staff and teachers the opportunity to present their topics and to exchange ideas with colleagues from other disciplines. Experts from the department »Image Processing« will be present.

ECCE is a conference for human-machine interaction and cognitive ergonomics. It offers both researchers and practitioners the opportunity to exchange new ideas and practical experiences in a variety of areas. Our colleague Dipl. -Psych. René Reinhard from the division »Mathematics for Vehicle Engineering« will give a talk and there will be a demo session on RODOS® at Fraunhofer ITWM.
