First Prize in the Competition »Digital Places in the Land of Ideas«
Together with »Germany – Land of Ideas«, Deutsche Glasfaser (DG) organized the nationwide competition »Digital Places« for the second time: The competition is looking for places (initiatives, projects, municipalities, pioneers) that have successfully introduced digital solutions and technologies and are thus successfully shaping and driving digital change in rural areas.
In the final selection, our project »DECIDE« beat two other projects in the category »Health« to win first prize.

»Best Paper Award« at the »Metadata and Semantics Research Conference« (MTSR)
At the MTSR 2023, a short paper from the »Mathematical Data Research Initiative« (MaRDI) was honoured with the »Best Paper Award«. Our employees are active in a research group at MaRDI and are creating a database for mathematical models. For this reason, they are currently developing a suitable ontology and generating a knowledge graph. The submitted paper describes the current status and the first link with the ontology of another research group.

Science Award of the Society for Operations Research (GOR)
At the annual meeting of the Society for Operations Research (GOR) on August 30, 2023, Prof. Dr. Anita Schöbel received the Science Award of the GOR. The award is the most important prize awarded by the society and recognizes a scientist every two years for exceptional contributions to the development of the field of »Operations Research«.
M.A. Tania Jacob
Award of the Sparkassen-Stiftung Kaiserslautern
Tania Jacob was honored for her outstanding master thesis at the 39th award ceremony of the Sparkassen-Stiftung Kaiserslautern. In the Department of Computer Science, she worked on the problem of detecting anomalies in time series as early as possible and before they occur.

ICT Dissertation Award
The prize of the Fraunhofer-Verbund IUK-Technologie was awarded to Dr. Sebastian Blauth for his outstanding doctoral thesis, which revolves around the »Adjoint-Based Shape Optimization and Optimal Control with Applications to Microchannel Systems«.
Dr. Simon Schnürch
GAUSS Young Scientist Award
Dr. Simon Schnürch, formerly working in our department »Financial Mathematics«, has received a Young Scientist Award for his dissertation »Mortality Modelling: Machine Learning and Mortality Shocks«. This is dedicated to an alternative for improving existing mortality models, namely the introduction of a Machine Learning method into the modelling.
