Making Kaiserslautern Mobile
Fraunhofer ITWM is also back in the second funding phase and has exciting new plans and ideas. »We see the approval of the follow-up application as further confirmation of our long-standing and successful cooperation with Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences,« says a pleased Dr. Klaus Dreßler, head of the department »Mathematics for Vehicle Development.« »Above all, our technical center, where we work closely with users, is a key success factor here.«
The institute contributes knowledge and experience in the transportation and mobility segment: The researchers develop sustainable solutions based on digital images of the environment, vehicles and complex processes. The experts are striving to optimize transportation systems, such as public transportation, and to improve the distribution of charging stations for electric cars. The researchers are also looking at the energy efficiency of the vehicles themselves. The ITWM employees see exciting new possibilities for improvement in the inclusion of a 5G infrastructure.
The concrete implementation scenarios, including traffic flow planning and the optimization of the public transport networks in Kaiserslautern, will be identified and selected by the start of the project in 2023.
