On 31 May, the board of the International Society for Porous Media (InterPore) will award the »InterPore Meritorious Service Medal« for the first time. The award winner is Prof. Dr. Oleg Iliev from the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM. The award honours his many years of extraordinary commitment to the InterPore society.
InterPore is a non-profit, independent scientific organisation, founded in 2008, whose members are engaged in the study, development and production of complex porous media. They focus on the following questions: How do natural and industrial porous media systems work? How can they be modelled and optimized?
Prof. Dr. Oleg Iliev, a member of the department »Flow and Material Simulation« at the Fraunhofer ITWM in Kaiserslautern, looks back on many years of dedicated service to InterPore: He was already on site at the founding meeting in 2008 in Utrecht (Netherlands) and was subsequently elected by the members as the first InterPore president. In addition to being a member of the Executive Committee for six years, he also organised the first InterPore annual meeting at Fraunhofer ITWM in March 2009 on a voluntary basis. Iliev has now been involved in each of the annual meetings for nine years, as chair of both the programme and events committees, coordinating their planning and organisation. Due to the Corona pandemic, InterPore2020 was held digitally for the first time. Here, Prof. Iliev was also able to contribute his many years of experience.
Just recently, Oleg Iliev took on the additional position as director of the »InterPore Academy of Porous Media«. The academy aims to promote educational activities through short courses, webinars and workshops. Last but not least, Iliev was also able to win various organisations as institutional members of InterPore. This commitment and continuous dedication to the promotion of the InterPore society will be honoured at the InterPore2021 Online Conference with the award of the »InterPore Meritorious Service Medal«. »This medal is a great honour for me and I really appreciate this recognition. InterPore was born as a big dream of like-minded people and I was lucky enough to be part of this team,« said Oleg Iliev in his acceptance speech.
The InterPore2021 Online Conference will take place digitally from 31 May to 4 June 2021. The Fraunhofer ITWM is represented at the conference with several presentations by researchers of the department »Flow and Material Simulation».
