Hall 7 – Booth 7301
Hall 7 – Booth 7301
With Control, suppliers and users have a specialist event at their disposal which illuminates all aspects in theory and presents the current global range of usable technologies, processes, products and system solutions for industrial quality assurance in practice. We will be present with experts from our departments »Material Characterization and Testing« and »Image Processing« at the joint booth of Fraunhofer Vision.
Short-pulse terahertz system for industrial coating thickness measurement
When measuring coating thickness in industrial environments, there are often sources of interference which cause vibrations and oscillations and thus falsify the measurement results. The Fraunhofer ITWM has developed a solution that enables reliable measurements in a non-contact and non-destructive manner despite these sources of interference: the short-pulse terahertz system.
Our experts will present a layer thickness gauge based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology. It is used to measure the thickness of very thin layers. In the process, the researchers are pushing into layer thickness ranges of less than 2 µm.
Inline Surface Inspection Systems
Automated inline surface inspection is capable of performing quality control in production. When processing surface materials such as metal, wood or plastic, special challenges arise, which we solve through individual approaches. The system overcomes challenges of inspecting complex metal objects even when there are not enough defect samples available for machine learning (ML) training. The solution is based on photo-realistic image simulation with parametric modeling of defects and surface texture. In addition, the positioning of the robot for a complete surface inspection is ensured using the virtual inspection planning software V-POI.
Our solution concepts enable crack detection in concrete and inspection of metal, plastic and wood surfaces as well as any other surface texture. A wide range of modular image processing algorithms including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and system components are available for this purpose. In extensive research and development programs, we work together with industrial partners and research institutions to develop tools that meet the high quality and automation requirements of the industrial world.
