An Overview of 5G Technologies and Architectures
Speaker: Jun Liu (Fraunhofer ITWM)
Abstract:
Synchronization via Funnel Coupling With Application for Decentralized Optimization
Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Grid, and many new emerging applications and technologies raise stringent requirements in different aspects of the communication network. 5G, together with its flexible deployments and advanced information and communication (ICT) technologies, provides high performance to serve variable application scenarios. The novel concepts and architectures of 5G will change the way we live and work in the near future. A complete 5G network is comprised of 5G new radio, radio access network (RAN), bearer network, and 5G new core. 5G new radio connects mobile end equipment to the base station (gNB) in RAN and the bearer network forwards the data from RAN to 5G new core. Finally, the core network processes the data and sends requests or responses to the destination networks or the Internet. 5G uses MIMO, beamforming, network slicing, and many ICT technologies and they improve the performance of the network and to support different service requirements. In the seminar, we will introduce the evolutionary histories and architectures of the 5G core network and 5G RAN as well as present the concepts behind each part of the 5G network contemplating features, applications, and currently available simulators.
