[** The CVT Symposium will be postponed to 9. – 11.3.2021.**] The 6th International Commercial Vehicle Technology Symposium addresses different aspects of commercial vehicle development and production. With regard to energy and resource efficiency, the topic of innovative drives with alternative fuels will be focused on. Another challenge is safety, reliability and life expectancy, which is becoming more and more relevant as part of automation. Not only is the improvement of the system components important for innovative commercial vehicles, but also new concepts for their operation must be found in order to increase productivity. Remote diagnostics or cloud solutions are also trends which must be pursued more intensively in the commercial vehicle sector. In order to improve the development and production process, it is important to use more and more powerful simulation tools and methods.

The Deep Learning Seminar is organized by employees from the field »Data Analysis and Machine Learning« in the department »High Performance Computing«. It is intended to give interested persons an insight into this large field of research and a deeper understanding. Everyone who wants to learn more about Deep Learning, Machine Learning or AI in general is invited. The event takes place regularly on Thursdays. This week Michael Bortz (Fraunhofer ITWM) will talk about »Flowsheet Simulation and Optimization Supported by Machine Learning Methods«.

[only available in German] Herkömmlich unterscheiden sich die Konzepte der Schwing- (Betriebs-) Festigkeit und Bruchmechanik bei zyklischer Beanspruchung darin, dass erstere Gesamtlebensdauern und Schwingfestigkeiten (Wöhlerkurven), letztere hingegen Restlebensdauern von Strukturen mit bereits längeren Rissen ermitteln. Will man das Bruchmechanik-Konzept auf den Bereich der Schwingfestigkeit ausdehnen, so müssen mehrere Probleme gelöst werden. Am Vormittag sind zwei Einführungsvorträge vorgesehen, die die wissenschaftlichen Grundprinzipien erläutern. Der Nachmittag beinhaltet einen Übungsteil, bei dem die Teilnehmer mitmilfe von Computersoftware selbst einfache Analysen durchführen sollen. An eine Einführung in das Programm schließen sich mehrere Übungseinheiten an.

In the last 30 years computer simulation has become an indispensable tool of automotive development. Despite of significant progress in simulation technology and impressive results in industrial application there remains a number of challenges. The automotive CAE Grand Challenge stimulates the exchange between users, scientists and software developers in order to solve these challenges. We are on site with our experts from the department »Transportation Processes«, among others Dr. Jörg Kuhnert reports about our software tool MESHFREE.

Die Tagung richtet sich auch in diesem Jahr nicht nur an angehende und etablierte Betriebsfestigkeitsexperten der Automobil-Industrie, sondern an Mitarbeiter aller Technikbereiche, die sich mit der Lebensdauer von Bauteilen und Bauteilsystemen auseinandersetzen.

Every two years, internationally outstanding scientists from universities, research institutions and industry meet in Kaiserslautern to discuss the latest mathematical methods in process engineering. The workshop, organized by the High Performance Center, offers a unique opportunity for scientific discussions and personal networking between researchers from science and practice to communicate and shape the topics of future process engineering.

The seminar KL-Regelungstechnik (Kaiserslautern – Control Theory and Control Engineering) is organized by our department System Analysis, Prognosis and Control as well as several research groups of the TU Kaiserslautern. Prof. Dr. Stephan Trenn from the Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Groningen(NL) will speak on the topic »Synchronization via Funnel Coupling With Application for Decentralized Optimization«.
