Our department heads Konrad Steiner and Dietmar Hietel explain our work projects in the field of simulation of processes and products in the textile industry.

We have a focus on modeling and simulating spinning processes as well as technical textiles. Especially, we work on these projects:

Designing Polymer Spinning Packages for Flow Dynamics
Melt spinning is the most common process for producing fibres from polymer. We use simulation and optimization methods to support customers in the development, design and improvement of spinning packages.

Machine Learning in the Textile Industry
The trend in the textile industry is towards individualisation in many areas. Consumers are increasingly demanding tailor-made products. However, this requires the digitalization of production, which we support with hybrid simulation-based Machine Learning (ML) methods.

Simulation and Optimization of Industrial Dry Spinning Processes
The fields of application of dry spinning processes range from textiles and nonwovens to lightweight components.
We have developed a simulation tool that maps dry spinning processes with hundreds or thousands of fibers. It detects both the full interaction of all fibers with the surrounding gas flow and the detailed diffusion of the solvent in each individual fiber.

Optimizing Draping Processes for FRP Components Made of High-Performance Textiles
The aim of the "OptiDrape" project is to increase the quality of preforms for FVK components and to shorten the development times for preforms. We classify the most diverse fabrics and fabrics according to weave types as well as roving materials and cross sections in terms of draping properties.
Modeling of the Effective Properties of Textiles
Our department »Flow and Material Simulation« is working in the field »Technical Textiles« on researching the computation of the effective material properties of technical textiles. One main part of our work is our simulation tool TexMath.
